Brambila Fregoso Family Tree

My mother's name was Maria del Refugio Carmen Brambila Fregoso. She was born on a stormy afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in the town of Monterrey, Mexico. Her birthday is July 4, 1904. She passed away in Mexico, City on June 26, 1989.

Carmen is the daughter of Felipe N. Brambila who was born in Autlan, Mexico on September 14, 1854. Carmen's mother was Florencia Contreras Cuevas.  Flor (grandma's nickname) died in a mental institution in San Pedro Tlaquepaque (a town near Guadalajara, Mexico) on March 11, 1921. Grandpa passed away in 1930. Florencia was the daughter of Jesus Contreras and Micaela Cuevas.

Felipe Neri Brambila's father was Luis Brambila and Mariana Fregoso. Luis Brambila was born in Tecolotlan, Jalisco, Mexico, in 1833. He died in Autlan, Mexico on July 28, 1910. Maria Feliciana, his wife, was born in Soyatlan, Jalisco, Mexico, on March 31, 1835. She died in Tenamaxtlan, Jalisco, Mexico, on July 5, 1871.

Luis Brambila's parents were Casildo Brambila and Rita Garcia de la Paz. Casildo was a Spaniard according to my mother. Casildo was born in Tecolotlan on April 3, 1803. Casildo was the son of Bernardino Brambila  and Josefa Gomez de la Paz. Josefa's parents were Jose Antonio Gomez de la Paz, a Spaniard who was loyal to the King of Spain and fought in the war of Mexican war of independence. Jose Antonio Gomez de la Paz was married to Josefa Garcia de Alba. Josefa was a Spaniard related to the Garcia de Alba family in Spain. Casildo died in Tecolotlan on June 4, 1874. Rita was born in Tenamaxtlan in the year 1807. She died in the same town on July 20, 1883.

Bernardino (Casildo's father) was the son of Jose Reyes de la Brambila. Bernardino was married to a lady whose last name was Rosales.

Jose Reyes de la Brambila was the son of Agustin and Antonia Gonzalez. Jose had several siblings; Agustin, Felipe, Sebastian and Pablo. Pablo was baptized in Tecolotlan on July 8, 1731. He was the owner of the hacienda Luis Jose Ibarra in the municipality of San Cristobal de la Barranca. My grandfather does not provide a birthday for Jose Reyes de la  Brambila.

Jose Antonio Gomez de Teran was a Spaniard who was a Judge in Tecolotlan in the XVIII century. He was the owner of the hacienda Santa Rita, which was located near the mountains of this town.

Up to this point, I have described my grandfather's ancestors on his paternal side. Following is the maternal side.

Grandpa's maternal grandparents were Juan Jose Fregoso and Rita Naranjo (Juan Jose was the son of Juan Antonio Fregoso and Maria Antonia Toscano..)We do not know their birth dates. Rita died in Tenamaxtlan on August 5, 1871. She was the daughter of Rafael Naranjo and Maria Ursula Gomez Brambila.

Maria Ursula Gomez Brambila was the daughter of Nicolas Crisanto Gomez Quijas and Maria Francisca Brambila Diaz de Santa Ana. Maria Francisca was born on September 15, 1785 in Tecolotlan, Jalisco.

Nicolas Crisanto Gomez Quijas (noted in the paragraph above) was the son of Francisco Gomez-Garcia y Velazco Zuniga and Michaela Timotea Quijas. My source is a noted genealogist named Alfredo Pena Perez-Plazola. He notes that the above families, along with the Michels and Diego Perez de la Torre are some of the families that founded the city of Guadalalajara, Mexico.

DNA Results

I have been thinking about doing a DJNA test as to ascertain my genealogical origins. I selected FamilyTreeDNA as the laboratory to conduct such test. I started by requesting a Y chromosome study, which means the chromosome that is passed from father to son. Here are some results: My Haplogroup is J-Z631. My understanding as a lay person is that Haplogroup refers to a genealogical tree branch. According to FamilyTreeDNA my paternal line was formed when it branched from the ancestor J-Z8421, and the rest of mankind, around 1900 BCE.  The man who is the most recent common ancestor of this line is estimated to have been born around 950 BCE (FamilyTreeDNA.) He is the ancestor of at least six descendant lineages known as J-Y87605, J-Z1043, J-Y144394, J-BY178901, J-FT101890, and J-PH9933. There are 793 DNA tested descendants whose earliest known origins are from Germany, United States, England and 46 other countries. Descendants of J-Z631 (my Haplogroup) are from these countries: S...

What is this Blog About?

What I want to talk about is the content of this blog. My original intent is to convey some of the history of who I am and where I come from. I do this by providing some data that was originally written by my grandfather and the long conversations I had with my dearly departed father and mother regarding our family history. The other topic I want to cover is the wonderful journey that I have traveled as an immigrant to the United States for fifty-five years. I am so interested in the cultural differences of my country of birth in contrast to the values and mores of the people of this country; it is a fascinating subject. What has encouraged me so much to excel, regardless of my economic condition, is the number of Americans who have mentored me and encouraged me to attain my goals. My gratitude to Bill Baker, my long- time friend and mentor. I also include some information regarding DNA test results that might clarify some the information that I provide in this blog. I ho...
